Manufacturing is the fourth largest  segment by employment. to put it into perspective, lets look at average wages in the top three industries by employment.

Manufacturing– According to BLS the average wage for CNC machine tool operators is $36,810 per year or $17.70 per hour. Link

Healthcare, non Degreed-  According to BLS, Nursing aides, attendants and orderlies median wage is $24.10 per year or $11.54 per hour Link

Hospitality– The average hourly earnings for production and nonsupervisory employees  in  the Hospitality industry  is just $11.85 per hour according to BLS.  That’s about $24,648 per year. Link

Money isn’t everything, but it helps to have an idea whether or not you will earn enough on a job to support yourself.
